SOYVDA Third Anniversary 2020
At the beginning of 2017, Somalia has experienced a massive drought that hit in different regions across the country. People were dying just a sip of water and most of them lost their livestock and started moving to other places while seeking a better life. On 8th March back in 2017, a Wednesday afternoon, a group of youth activists come together and asked themselves, what role they can play to respond to the devastating drought.
They immediately agreed to found a volunteer association whose aim was to improve and upgrade the community and to reduce the burdens of poverty and illiteracy for the people of Somalia by providing access to food and clean water, basic education, healthcare programs, and community development workshops. SOYVDA is a non-profit and Community based association whose membership is drawn from the broader Somali communities in and outside the country.
On 8th March 2020, SOYVDA celebrated three years of Excellency and serving our community. During the occasion, Members from different chapters gathered and celebrated our third anniversary. Our Mogadishu crew gathered at SOYVDA’s main office to share their three years’ experience, lessons learned, memories they made, and so on. Similarly, our second chapter at beledwein has also marked the occasion of that day. Despite that other chapters at Nairobi, Kampala and Istanbul were not able to come together.
During the past three years, SOYVDA implemented more than ten projects in different regions like Benadir and Beledweyne. The above projects have had a great impact on the local community and contributed to sustainable development goals.
The main aim and the motto of the organization were to help the underprivileged or marginalized communities in our country despite their background. In addition, we were also promoting volunteerism in Somalia.
